Elon Musk announced Saturday the formation of a new political movement called the America Party, stating that its mission is to “restore freedom” to the American people. The announcement came via his social media platform X, formerly Twitter, where he criticized the current political establishment as wasteful and corrupt.
“Today, the America Party is formed to restore freedom,” Musk wrote. “When it comes to bankrupting our country through waste and corruption, we live in a uniparty system, not a democracy.”
The idea gained traction after Musk posted a poll on X asking users whether the U.S. needs a new political party. Over 1.2 million users participated, with approximately 65% in favor. Musk cited the results as a clear mandate: “By a 2 to 1 margin, you want a new political party.”
Musk has not released details about the party’s leadership, platform, or future electoral plans, but the announcement signals his growing interest in shaping U.S. political discourse ahead of the 2024 elections.
