FGR DELEGATE KILLED IN GRENADES AND GUNFIRE ATTACK IN REYNOSA, MEXICO

Ernesto Cuitláhuac Vázquez Reyna, the federal delegate for Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Tamaulipas, was killed Monday, August 4, in a violent attack in the city of Reynosa.

The incident occurred on Miguel Hidalgo Boulevard, near Engrei Square, where witnesses reported hearing gunfire and seeing what appeared to be the use of fragmentation grenades. Vázquez Reyna’s black Cadillac Escalade reportedly caught fire after the attack, prompting emergency services to respond to the scene.

In a brief statement, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Tamaulipas confirmed the death of a presumed federal public servant and stated that coordination with federal authorities was underway to support the investigation.

Videos circulating on social media show the burning vehicle and a body lying on the pavement, believed to be that of Vázquez Reyna.

The area was cordoned off by local police and investigative units. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

The killing underscores the persistent security challenges facing northern Mexico, particularly in Tamaulipas, a state long plagued by organized crime and cartel violence.
