ICE ARRESTS JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ JR. IN LOS ANGELES ON IMMIGRATION AND CARTEL CHARGES

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Mexican professional boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. on July 2 in Los Angeles, officials confirmed. The arrest comes as Chávez faces an active warrant in Mexico linked to organized crime, according to ICE.

Chávez Jr., son of legendary boxer Julio César Chávez Sr., is being processed for expedited removal from the United States. Authorities allege he is affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel and accuse him of involvement in trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.

ICE stated that Chávez’s arrest underscores the agency’s commitment to enforcing immigration law and combating transnational crime. “No one is above the law — including high-profile individuals,” a senior DHS official said.

The Mexican government has issued an extradition request for Chávez Jr., whose legal representatives have not yet commented publicly. ICE says the case is part of broader efforts to target cartel affiliates operating within U.S. borders.
