The U.S. Army announced Thursday that 200 U.S. Marines are being deployed to Florida to provide administrative and logistical support to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), marking the first wave of assistance under U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, USNORTHCOM emphasized that the troops will perform “strictly non-law enforcement functions” and will not have direct contact with individuals in ICE custody. Their roles are limited to behind-the-scenes support, including logistics, transport coordination, and other base operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pentagon approved the deployment of up to 700 active-duty personnel in June to assist ICE operations across Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. The current group of 200 Marines is the initial contingent of that authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Donald Trump also ordered a separate deployment of 700 Marines to Los Angeles in June to provide perimeter protection for ICE agents during large-scale immigration enforcement operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
