An arrest warrant was issued for him on February 14, 2025, over suspected ties to the criminal group known as \u201cLa Barredora,\u201d according to General Miguel \u00c1ngel L\u00f3pez Mart\u00ednez, commander of the 30th Military Zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Berm\u00fadez Requena reportedly fled the country on the day the warrant was issued, traveling from M\u00e9rida, Yucat\u00e1n to Panama, with a layover in Spain, and is now believed to be in Bras\u00edlia, Brazil. The Mexican government is working with Interpol to track and detain the former official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His departure followed a violent wave of crime in Tabasco, including riots, vehicle burnings, and armed clashes. Berm\u00fadez had previously denied cartel activity in the state, attributing violence to local gangs. However, current Governor Javier May has stated that under previous administrations, organized crime was allowed to take root in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This development comes amid broader upheaval in Tabasco\u2019s security apparatus. Berm\u00fadez\u2019s successor, V\u00edctor Hugo Ch\u00e1vez Mart\u00ednez, also resigned under threat from criminal groups.
