In a tearful video posted on November\u202f10, Miller apologized to her followers and to those affected by her actions. She said the false claim occurred during a period of severe mental\u2011health struggles following the loss of her partner and her job.
Miller explained that although a fundraising page was created on her behalf by friends, she shut it down after noticing it had accepted two donations and insisted she never took any money. \u201cI didn\u2019t take a penny from it,\u201d she said.
She acknowledged the harm the incident caused, especially to followers and families touched by cancer, stressing that \u201clying about cancer is really wrong.\u201d She called the time in her life a \u201creally difficult time\u201d and said she\u2019s learned from it.
Although the incident occurred before she gained fame as an influencer, critics argue that the deception undermines trust in social\u2011media creators and fundraising efforts. A former friend told media: \u201cLots of her followers will have family members living with cancer\u2026 little do they know that every time they watch one of her videos, they are giving money to a fraud.\u201d
Miller has since built her social\u2011media career, posting videos about comfort meals and lifestyle content. She said she is now in a better mental place and hopes to advocate for mental\u2011health awareness as a result of her experience.
Legal records show Miller was convicted in 2020 of fraud by false representation and received a 12\u2011month conditional discharge, plus compensation and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
