Airbus (AIR.PA) lowered its full-year commercial jet delivery target<\/strong> by 4% on Wednesday \u2014 from 820 jets to around 790<\/strong> \u2014 after discovering a fuselage quality flaw<\/strong> affecting hundreds of aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the industrial setback, Airbus said it would maintain all financial targets<\/strong>, sending its shares up more than 3%<\/strong> after a two-day slide of nearly 7%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision comes one day after CEO Guillaume Faury<\/strong> acknowledged \u201cweak\u201d November deliveries caused by the issue and told Reuters that the company would determine the impact for the rest of the year \u201cin the hours and days\u201d ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE FUSELAGE ISSUE: NOT A SAFETY RISK BUT A COSTLY DELAY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Reuters first reported the flaw earlier this week, following an emergency recall of thousands of A320s<\/strong> related to a separate software issue involving solar radiation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new problem involves inconsistent thickness<\/strong> in fuselage panels machined by one of Airbus\u2019s two external suppliers.
Although not considered an immediate safety hazard \u2014 the parts still withstand stress beyond operational limits \u2014 airlines are reluctant to accept aircraft that could require expensive structural repairs<\/strong> in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airbus has paused deliveries to carry out rapid inspections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 628 aircraft<\/strong> must be inspected<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 168 are already in service<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Dozens of production aircraft<\/strong> have shown the flaw<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Most issues are near the forward passenger door<\/strong>, with some also found on rear fuselage zones<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Each repair requires 3\u20135 weeks<\/strong>, according to The Air Current<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Only a portion of jets will need full panel replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A320 PROFITABILITY BOOSTS CONFIDENCE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Analysts say Airbus\u2019s decision to keep financial guidance unchanged<\/strong> reflects the strength of its A320 program \u2014 now the most-delivered aircraft in aviation history<\/strong>, surpassing the Boeing 737.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Defense and helicopter divisions also continue to provide stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    While Airbus benefits from strong global demand and Boeing\u2019s ongoing struggles, it has faced persistent supply-chain headwinds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
