Vance later said the session was physically punishing \u2014 even with accommodations made for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cJust finished PT with the Navy SEALs for 90 minutes,\u201d<\/strong> Vance wrote on X.<br><strong>\u201cThey took it easy on me and I still feel like I got hit by a freight train.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that he was grateful for the service members who maintain what he called <strong>\u201cthe highest standards anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">HOME OF \u201cHELL WEEK\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Naval Amphibious Base Coronado is home to the SEALs\u2019 <strong>Basic Underwater Demolition\/SEAL (BUD\/S)<\/strong> training program, infamous for its brutal <strong>\u201cHell Week,\u201d<\/strong> during which only about <strong>20% of candidates<\/strong> typically advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Vance did not participate in formal SEAL training, the workout reflected the <strong>physical intensity and endurance culture<\/strong> that defines the force. Faces of many of the SEALs in official images were blurred for operational security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">A MARINE AMONG ELITE FORCES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance served in the <strong>United States Marine Corps<\/strong> from <strong>2003 to 2007<\/strong> and deployed to <strong>Iraq in 2005<\/strong>. He has often cited his military service as formative to his <strong>America First foreign policy outlook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His appearance with the SEALs echoes similar public engagements by <strong>Pete Hegseth<\/strong>, who has frequently posted footage of himself training alongside active-duty troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hegseth has also drawn attention for enforcing stricter physical and grooming standards, including a policy restricting beards for most service members and urging the military to be <strong>\u201cfit, not fat.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance, notably, was the <strong>only participant wearing a beard<\/strong> during the training session. Asked previously about the policy, he remarked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen I was a young United States Marine, I did not have a beard. I am now the vice president.
