The U.S. Senate on Saturday confirmed former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia in a 50–45 vote, solidifying her transition from cable news personality to a top federal prosecutor.
Pirro, a former co-host of The Five, was nominated by President Donald Trump in May, shortly after he appointed her as interim U.S. attorney. Her nomination followed the withdrawal of Trump’s initial pick, Ed Martin, amid reported opposition from Senate Republicans.
Prior to her television career, Pirro served as an assistant district attorney, county judge, and district attorney in Westchester County, New York. She left Fox News immediately after Trump’s announcement.
Pirro was among several Fox hosts named in a high-profile defamation lawsuit related to false claims about the 2020 election. Fox ultimately settled the case and publicly acknowledged the statements made on-air were inaccurate.
