The U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday the creation of a specialized task force to investigate claims made in an intelligence report accusing former President Barack Obama and members of his national security team of orchestrating a conspiracy to undermine Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory.
According to the DOJ, the task force will review evidence presented by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who has accused Obama officials of knowingly promoting a false narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to support Trump.
“The strike force will thoroughly investigate these troubling revelations, and we will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served,” said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Gabbard held a press conference at the White House, stating there is “irrefutable evidence” that senior Obama officials manipulated intelligence to create a misleading assessment of Russian interference. She also submitted the relevant documents to both the DOJ and FBI for investigation.
