President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call this week to discuss developments in Ukraine, Syria, and ongoing joint economic projects, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
During the conversation, Putin reiterated Russia’s interest in a negotiated resolution to the Ukraine conflict and emphasized Moscow’s intent to address what it views as the root causes of the war. President Trump raised the urgency of accelerating efforts to halt active military operations in the region.
The two leaders also reviewed the situation in Syria, with both agreeing to continue diplomatic dialogue. While no concrete agreements were disclosed, the Kremlin described the tone of the call as constructive and forward-looking.
Additionally, Presidents Trump and Putin discussed cooperation on strategic joint initiatives in energy and space exploration. No plans for an in-person meeting were announced during the call.
