PUTIN MEETS U.S. SPECIAL ENVOY STEVE WITKOFF AT KREMLIN

Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded a three-hour meeting with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin on Wednesday, according to the Russian presidential press office.

Kiril Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign nations, stated on X that “dialogue will prevail” following the meeting and thanked supporters for their well wishes regarding Witkoff’s visit.

The meeting comes amid renewed threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose new economic sanctions on Russia if no peace agreement with Ukraine is reached. Trump has, however, expressed skepticism over the effectiveness of additional sanctions, acknowledging Moscow’s ability to sidestep restrictions.

This marks the second meeting between Putin and Witkoff this year. A previous encounter in April discussed potential direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv. Russia’s peace proposal includes Ukrainian withdrawal from four annexed regions and recognition of them, along with Crimea, as part of the Russian Federation.
