Two people were injured in a shooting late Sunday near the Stonewall Inn in New York City, a site recognized as a national monument for LGBTQ+ rights. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. local time in Greenwich Village, as crowds were still dispersing following the city’s Pride March.
Mayor Eric Adams responded to the violence on social media, stating: “It saddens me to learn of the shooting near the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were coming to an end. At a time when our city should be celebrating its diverse community, such incidents are devastating.”
According to New York Police Department sources cited by local media, one of the victims is in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or suspects, and no arrests have been made as of Sunday evening.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over hate crimes targeting the LGBTQ+ community. GLAAD recently reported 932 anti-LGBTQ+ attacks between May 2024 and May 2025, including 10 deaths and 84 injuries—52% involving transgender or non-binary individuals.
