TRUMP THREATENS TO RAISE TARIFFS ON INDIA OVER ECONOMIC TIES TO RUSSIA

U.S. President Donald Trump warned Monday that his administration may impose higher tariffs on India, citing New Delhi’s ongoing economic and defense partnerships with Russia. The threat adds new strain to an already complex trade relationship between the two democracies.

“India continues to deepen its ties with Russia, and we are reviewing all available trade tools in response,” Trump said during remarks at the White House.

India has maintained strong energy and military relations with Moscow, including continued purchases of Russian oil and defense equipment despite Western sanctions. Trump has recently tied tariff policy to broader geopolitical objectives, arguing that closer alignment with U.S. priorities should come with trade benefits.

The White House has not specified which sectors could be targeted by new tariffs or when they might be imposed.
