TEXAS GOVERNOR THREATENS “100% RELOCATION TARIFF” ON NEW YORKERS

MOVE COMES AMID REACTION TO EXPECTED ELECTION WIN BY SOCIALIST CANDIDATE ZOHRAN MAMDANI

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced plans to impose a 100% relocation tariff on individuals moving from New York to Texas, calling the proposal a “protective measure” for state taxpayers.

The statement comes amid political reactions to the expected victory of Zohran Mamdani, a socialist and Muslim candidate, in tomorrow’s New York City mayoral election. Abbott said the influx of what he described as “failed liberal policies” from other states is “a growing concern for Texas.”

While no formal legislation has been introduced, Abbott said his administration will explore “tax parity and relocation fees” to discourage residents from states with what he termed “destructive economic models.”

Critics immediately labeled the announcement as symbolic and unconstitutional, noting that U.S. states cannot legally impose tariffs on interstate migration. Legal experts described the plan as a political statement rather than an enforceable policy.

Abbott’s remarks reflect the broader ideological divide between conservative-led southern states and liberal coastal regions, which has intensified amid national debates on taxes, immigration, and housing affordability.

Zohran Mamdani, projected to win decisively in New York’s mayoral race, has called for expanding social programs, rent control, and wealth redistribution — positions that have drawn strong criticism from Republicans nationwide.

Although Abbott did not mention Mamdani by name, his comments directly referenced “socialist mayors in America’s largest cities” and warned that Texas “will not subsidize their exodus.”

The Texas Governor’s Office has yet to clarify how such a measure would be implemented or whether it is primarily a political statement ahead of the 2026 midterms.
