FORMER PRESIDENT DEMANDS VOTER-REFORM, FILIBUSTER END AFTER DEM SWEEP
Former President Donald Trump took to social media immediately after the November 4, 2025 off-year elections to vocalize his frustration over sweeping Democratic victories. On his platform Truth Social and on X (formerly Twitter), he claimed that the Republican Party’s defeats stemmed from two primary factors: his own absence from the ballot and the ongoing government shutdown.
In a post written in all-caps, Trump wrote: “TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,” attributing the losses to what he described as “pollsters’” conclusions.

He followed that with a cryptic message as results came in from major races: “…AND SO IT BEGINS!” A phrase that analysts interpreted as an ominous signal of what he views as a political reckoning for the GOP.

Among his targeted remarks was the New York City mayoral race, where he singled out progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani, labeling him “Communist” and threatening minimal federal support for the city if Mamdani won. He simultaneously endorsed former Governor Andrew Cuomo, stating: “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him.”

Trump’s posts also included an urgent call for sweeping electoral reform: he urged Republicans to pass voter ID laws, ban mail-in ballots, save the Supreme Court of the United States from “packing,” reject adding two states, and most emphatically, “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!!!”

Political analysts say the social-media blitz serves multiple purposes: deflecting blame from his brand, regrouping his base around legislative agendas, and setting the stage for future influence within the GOP. Others warn his rhetoric may further alienate moderate Republicans and add fuel to internal party divisions.
While Trump outwardly blamed structural issues for GOP losses, exit polling and media commentary suggest voter dissatisfaction with his leadership and messaging also played a decisive role. His posts underscore the widening gap between the party’s MAGA faction and more traditional conservative voters.
As the Republican Party reels from unexpected losses in Virginia, New Jersey, New York and California (via Proposition 50), Trump’s rhetoric signals a new phase in his political strategy — one rooted in high drama, social-media dominance and legislative confrontation, rather than traditional campaigning.
