BRITISH STAR WITH 3.5 MILLION FOLLOWERS APOLOGIZES AFTER FAKE 2017 DIAGNOSIS RE‑SURFACES
LONDON — Nov. 11, 2025. British TikTok influencer Brittany Miller, known for her comfort food videos and a following of 3.5 million, has publicly addressed a longstanding scandal in which she falsely claimed to have stage‑three gastric cancer in 2017.
In a tearful video posted on November 10, Miller apologized to her followers and to those affected by her actions. She said the false claim occurred during a period of severe mental‑health struggles following the loss of her partner and her job.
Miller explained that although a fundraising page was created on her behalf by friends, she shut it down after noticing it had accepted two donations and insisted she never took any money. “I didn’t take a penny from it,” she said.
She acknowledged the harm the incident caused, especially to followers and families touched by cancer, stressing that “lying about cancer is really wrong.” She called the time in her life a “really difficult time” and said she’s learned from it.
Although the incident occurred before she gained fame as an influencer, critics argue that the deception undermines trust in social‑media creators and fundraising efforts. A former friend told media: “Lots of her followers will have family members living with cancer… little do they know that every time they watch one of her videos, they are giving money to a fraud.”
Miller has since built her social‑media career, posting videos about comfort meals and lifestyle content. She said she is now in a better mental place and hopes to advocate for mental‑health awareness as a result of her experience.
Legal records show Miller was convicted in 2020 of fraud by false representation and received a 12‑month conditional discharge, plus compensation and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The resurfacing of the case has sparked broader discussions about influencer accountability, the ethics of online fundraising, and the mental‑health pressures faced by creators. Miller’s apology may mark a turning point — but her reputation faces a steep climb.
