Trump Says He Was Right About Browns
Quarterback Following Impressive Debut
President Donald Trump praised Shedeur Sanders after the quarterback’s first NFL win as a starter with the Cleveland Browns,
telling supporters he was correct in backing Sanders as the team’s next big star.
Shedeur Sanders made his first NFL start on Sunday, leading the Browns to a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, snapping a long losing streak for Browns quarterbacks making their first career starts.
In the game, Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards, threw one touchdown and one interception, and executed pivotal plays including a 52-yard connection with rookie wide receiver Isaiah Bond and a screen pass leading to a 66-yard touchdown run by rookie running back Dylan Sampson.
Trump celebrated Sanders’ poised and effective performance, emphasizing the president’s confidence in Sanders even before his starting opportunity. “I told you guys he was the real deal,” Trump said on social media.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Sanders for his composure and growth during the week of practice leading up to the start, noting his ability to avoid sacks and manage the game effectively.
Sanders acknowledged the critics but remained focused, stating that failure “ain’t gonna happen” and showing gratitude for the coaching and support from teammates and family, including his father and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who attended the game.
Fans and analysts noted that Sanders’ calm presence and ability to exploit the skills of young teammates could be vital for the Browns’ future success as they explore their quarterback options.
The win marked a significant milestone for Sanders, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft and is looking to solidify his place as the Browns’ primary quarterback.
