🚀 Trump Signs Executive Order Launching “Genesis Mission” to Boost AI Research, Comparing It to the Manhattan Project

New Federal Initiative Aims to Accelerate Scientific
Discovery Using Artificial Intelligence

President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the “Genesis Mission,” a federal effort to enhance America’s scientific capabilities by harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, drawing parallels to the historic Manhattan Project in scale and ambition.

The order directs the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to coordinate with national laboratories and private companies to build an integrated AI platform using the largest collection of federal scientific datasets in the world.

The goal is to accelerate research breakthroughs and innovation across key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, materials science, nuclear energy, quantum computing, semiconductors, and microelectronics.

White House officials emphasize that the “Genesis Mission” represents a coordinated national effort to ensure U.S. leadership in a rapidly evolving global AI race, particularly vis-à-vis China.

Trump called the mission “comparable in historical importance to the Manhattan Project,” reflecting the critical nature of AI for future technological and security advantages.

The executive order requires a detailed inventory of computing resources and networks within 90 days to kickstart the operation effectively.

“This mission will transform scientific inquiry by integrating AI capability with scientists, engineers, and sophisticated instruments,” said Michael Kratsios, OSTP director.

The initiative follows Trump’s prior AI policy framework “Winning the Race: America’s AI Action Plan,” highlighting deregulation and public-private partnerships as catalysts for innovation.
