The daughter of outgoing Rep. Nancy Pelosi enters the race for Scott Wiener’s seat as he campaigns to succeed her mother in Congress.
Christine Pelosi, the daughter of longtime California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has officially announced her bid for a California State Senate seat currently held by Sen. Scott Wiener, who is running to replace Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In her campaign launch, Pelosi, a Democratic attorney and activist, framed her run as a fight to defend consumer rights, women’s rights, and vulnerable communities.
“I’m running to represent San Francisco in Sacramento, fighting for consumer rights, women’s rights, gun violence survivors, immigrants, and our most vulnerable communities, against the threat we face,” Pelosi said. “What do we do when our freedoms are under attack? We speak up, we fight back, and we organize power for the people.”
If successful, this would mark Christine Pelosi’s first time holding public office. She has previously worked as an attorney, author, and party strategist, serving as chair of the California Democratic Party’s Women’s Caucus and as a delegate to multiple Democratic National Conventions.
Wiener’s Senate term runs through 2028, but if he wins Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat in 2026, his state position will become vacant.
Political observers believe Pelosi will enjoy strong institutional support.
“Christine clears the field of the establishment left,” said political consultant Jim Ross, citing her deep ties to the Pelosi political network, which has shaped San Francisco politics for decades.
Outgoing Rep. Nancy Pelosi confirmed earlier this year that she would not seek reelection, saying she looks forward to her “final year of service” and thanked voters for their support.
“I will not be seeking reelection to Congress,” the senior Pelosi said. “With a grateful heart, I look forward to my final year of service as your proud representative.”
Nancy Pelosi also highlighted her decades of work securing federal funds for San Francisco, calling on residents to “know your power” and continue civic engagement.
Meanwhile, Scott Wiener has launched his campaign for Congress, promising to “fight Trump’s takeover” and focus on housing, healthcare, clean energy, and civil rights.
